If you are looking for a great place to visit in the greater Denver area, look no further than Aurora, Colorado. This city offers many things from restaurants and nightlife all the way up through museums that will be sure satisfy any curiosity! Here I’ve listed my favorite places within this wonderful town.
Aurora Reservoir
The Aurora Reservoirs, located off of Exposition and Buckley, offer an amazing place to go fishing or just enjoy the outdoors. You can hike along trails that run near the different water bodies around the area. There is even a disc golf course at one of them! This reservoir also has great bird watching opportunities as well as some good areas for picnics and barbeques with friends and family!
Plains Conservation Center
If you are a nature lover, this is the place for you! This amazing wildlife center allows people to see many different species of animals up close and personal! There are many things to do at the Plains Conservation Center. These things include things like horseback riding, fishing, hiking or biking trails, as well as bird watching. They even have a shooting range where you can go shoot clay pigeons from a trap field!
Aurora History Museum
The Aurora History Museum is a great place to visit if you want to learn more about where this town came from. This place features various things like the history of the Native American tribes that once inhabited this area as well as things regarding World War II and even newer things like things from 9/11! So many interesting things are held within this museum, such as clothing worn during those times or even artifacts such as old rifles and photographs.
East Colfax Avenue
East Colfax Avenue is definitely one of the things to do in Aurora that everyone should go and see at least once. Along this avenue, there are many things from restaurants to retail stores as well as things like tattoo parlors. The street even features a “mile high” marker that states how high above sea level you currently are! This place also has a ton of things going on around it all the time, so you’ll never get bored.
Centennial Center Park
Located at E. Colfax Ave. & Sable Blvd., Centennial Center Park is an amazing park that features things like the Aurora Reservoir, a playground, soccer fields, tennis courts, and even things for people who are handicap accessible! This place is full of things to do in Aurora for all different kinds of people! It’s also right next to the Cherry Creek State Park which has things like bike trails to beautiful views of nature!
Cherry Creek State Park
Cherry Creek State Park is an amazing place to escape the busy things in life. This park features things like bike trails that are typically not very crowded. It also has things available for people who are handicap accessible, which include things like ramps and things of that nature. This place is a great way to relax with friends or family! There are also small ponds located in this park where you can go fishing in!
Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge
Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge is a great place to go if you’re an outdoorsy person. This place features things like hiking trails that run throughout the whole wildlife refuge. It also has things for people who are handicap accessible, which include things like wheelchair accessible trails and things of that nature. The Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge is a great way to see many different species of animals in their habitat.
High Line Canal Trail
The High Line Canal Trail is a great place to go if you want to see things like the Aurora Reservoir. This trail runs alongside the river and things like rocks and ponds and things of that nature. There are even things along this trail like old romanesque ruins, which gives it an ancient feel. Many different people visit this area daily, so it’s also never too crowded! Millions of gallons of water run through here on a daily basis as well, giving things such as fishing in the canal another option for things to do in Aurora.
Sand Creek Regional Greenway Trail
This is a great place to go if you want things like things for people who are handicap accessible or things that are wheelchair accessible. This trail also has things like things for people who love biking, hiking, and things of that nature. There’s even an area along this trail called the Denver Zoo Junction which is the area where animals from the Denver Zoo were transported out to when they had to move! So there are even some animals located in this area.
